Information visualization the interdisciplinary study of the visual representation of large-scale collections of non-numerical information, such as files and lines of code in software systems, and the use of graphical techniques to help people understand and analyze data. In contrast with scientific visualization, information visualization focuses on abstract data sets, such as unstructured text or points in high-dimensional space, that do not have an inherent 2D or 3D geometrical structure. OverviewThe term Information visualization could be taken to subsume all developments in data visualization, information graphics, knowledge visualization, scientific visualization and visual design. At this level, almost anything, if sufficiently organized, is information of a sort: tables, graphs, maps and even text, whether static or dynamic, provide some means to see what lies within, determine the answer to a question, find relations, and perhaps apprehend things which could not be seen so readily in other forms. But today the term "information visualization" in scientific research is generally applied to the visual representation of large-scale collections of non-numerical information. Information visualization focused on the creation of approaches for conveying abstract information in intuitive ways. Visual representations and interaction techniques take advantage of the human eye’s broad bandwidth pathway into the mind to allow users to see, explore, and understand large amounts of information at once. Q. I'm just curious, if they do not get visual input if their visual cortex is less developed than someone who gets direct visual input? I'm wondering because we process a lot of information all at once through our vision, and I would guess that imagined visuals are less taxing to it. So blind people having only imagined visuals should have a less taxed visual cortex, so it wouldn't need to be overly developed. Is this right or wrong? Do they end up compensating by having even better imagined visuals because their visual cortex still functions at full capacity no matter what? By imagined visuals I mean visualizations using the mind. Thanks so much in advance. Asked by Luis - Fri May 18 09:40:03 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. ...Your guess is correct. If a person is blind from birth, the visual cortex will not be stimulated during the critical developmental period in infancy when the neurons overgrow, then prune back, leaving the neurons most used. A blind person would have minimal neurons left after pruning. Also, the more the cortex is used, the more it is stimulated to create neural pathways to establish memory and processing patterns. This means lots of dendrites growing to make the necessary connections. Lack of use means no dendritic growth. The end result is a much less developed occipital area. But this is only one area of the brain. Other areas of the brain should develop normally. Also the brain has "plasticity," meaning if necessary, an area of… [cont.] Answered by unknown - Fri May 18 09:43:00 2007 I'm 16 years 3 months old and 6'1 and I want to ensure that I'll grow at least 4 inches...how can I do this? Q. My Dad's 5'9, My Mom's 5'6. My concern is because of athletics (height means a lot in sports) and I'm not certain I can rely on genetics. I'm the tallest in my whole family (extended too). I haven't gotten my full facial hair yet so I'm assuming that I'll still grow at least some. I lift weights and I've heard things such as weightlifting can stunt growth, although I've read no conclusive information concerning this. It does seem possible since it puts pressure on the spine. I want to be extremely tall. Julius Irving grew from 6'1 at my age to 6'6 at 25 so I use that as an inspiration but I know thats only his genes. Question...how can I, by physical means (stretching, meditation, visualization...anything! ) , maximize my potential… [cont.] Asked by Jamal M - Sat Dec 2 14:38:58 2006 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. I guess you play basketball. The weightlifting thing totally right. My friend wanted to be like CA's Gov. Arnold S. and started weightlifting hundreds of pounds. If you lift weights, lift light and have more reps. I play indoor and beach volleyball and I'm 6'3, I did that and it totally works, I am 25 just like Irving. When I was your age I was 6 foot. So I slowly grew inches. When I was 22 I peak at 6'3. One thing to do is to continue exercise. Do what you've always been doing, and eat beef otherwise you won't keep growing (This is why vegetarians typically aren't tall!) Keep on Growing! Q. Hi I have a strange question with something that has been happening to me for a while now. It started last year a few weeks after my birthday. I am now 26 I am currently overseas working. This may sound crazy but I can see through people. It doesn't always happen at will. It started with me playing a guessing game with friends with 'what colour' they were thinking. The strange thing is when normally we try to figure something out we think and depend on alot of facts and we sit there thinking away. But the strange thing about this is that when i was asked to guess the colour there was this sudden flash of light in my mind and it seemed like my eyes looked up towards the center of my forehead and I saw a colour. I guessed the colour right… [cont.] Asked by energy - Sat Feb 28 13:50:01 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. You are not a 'nut case.' You have the gifts of extraordinary intuition and mental telepathy. Your body also produces more electricity than most people. (My grandmother could not keep a pendant watch ticking for this reason, although she could wear a wrist watch.) You are so open and attentive that you really can read people's thoughts. Everybody actually has this ability, but not to your advanced degree. Use your gifts for good things, and don't let them freak you out.
