A book is a set or collection of written, printed, illustrated, or blank sheets, made of paper, parchment, or other material, usually fastened together to hinge at one side. A single sheet within a book is called a leaf, and each side of a leaf is called a page. A book produced in electronic format is known as an e-book.

Books may also refer to a literature work, or a main division of such a work. In library and information science, a book is called a monograph, to distinguish it from serial periodicals such as magazines, journals or newspapers. The body of all written works including books is literature.

In novels, a book may be divided into several large sections, also called books (Book 1, Book 2, Book 3, etc).

A lover of books is usually referred to as a bibliophile, a bibliophilist, or a philobiblist, or, more informally, a bookworm.

A store where books are bought and sold is a bookstore or bookshop. Books can also be borrowed from libraries.

Where can I find books to purchase in bulk for my lending library?
Q. I run a real estate development and we are going to be opening our Activity Center facility in the 6 weeks. My main project at this point is stocking our lending library. I have already purchased fiction and mystery books from our local library book sale. I am especially interested in tracking down high quality children's and non-fiction books, as well as reference books.

A. You could try to make deals with a local used bookstore or call around to thrift shops or Goodwill stores to see if they have any book lots.

What books have eagerly awaited and then been dissapointed by?
Q. I recently got the first five books from Jim Butcher's Dresden Files for a lovely reading marathon. I love paranormal stuff, and he came so highly recommended I was champing at the bit in anticipation of a new series with many instalments to look forward to. I've only managed the first two and am really disappointed. I can't figure out why they haven't clicked with me. Have you ever had this happen with a book?

A. I kept reading reviews about a book called "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao" that made it sound like it was brilliant. It WASN'T, and I hate reading a whole book waiting for something to happen and nothing interesting ever does.

What are some great books for a 14yr old that can read well past 8th grade expectations?
Q. I'm an excellant reader and i love to read. But some of the books that are recommended for 8th graders, I could of read in like 3rd grade! So I've been trying to find some books that are for a higher reading level and the only ones i have thought of were Steven King books and those aren't that appealing to me.

A. Looks like you are a girly girl-so I can help you :) As far as the boy fiction goes, I'm sadly in the dark. I absolutely loved the Bell Jar and Girl Interupted when I was in Jr. High. I enjoyed the dark angsty side of feminism. Anne Rice wrote a few Vampire novels. I like Vampires and all the fantasy type- Too many people are going to reccomend the Twilight series, which, while it's good-might bore you a little. The Girl with a Pearl Earing was good. Don't watch the movie, dissapointing. The Phillip Pullman Trillogy, His Dark Materials, is great for older people if you can understand the subtleties beyond "boy & girl fighting to save the world" . If you like words, read Ella Minnow Pea. Great fun read. And Please don't… [cont.]
