A consultant (from the Latin consultare means "to discuss" from which we also derive words such as consul and counsel) is a professional who provides advice in a particular area of expertise such as management, accountancy, the environment, entertainment, technology, law (tax law, in particular), human resources, marketing, emergency management, food production, medicine, finance, life management, economics, public affairs, communication, engineering, sound system design, graphic design, or waste management. A consultant is usually an expert or a professional in a specific field and has a wide knowledge of the subject matter. A consultant usually works for a consultancy firm or is self-employed, and engages with multiple and changing clients. Thus, clients have access to deeper levels of expertise than would be feasible for them to retain in-house, and may purchase only as much service from the outside consultant as desired. 'Consultant' is also the term used to denote the most senior medical position in the United Kingdom, Australia and Ireland (e.g., a consultant surgeon). From Wikipedia under the

Answered by Anna P - Tue Apr 8 17:38:36 2008 In a sole proprietorship, can you hire consultants to do work and not have to worry about tax issues? Q. I run a sole proprietorship business that offers technology services. Periodically I get work requests that fall outside of my knowledge and experience. In those situations, I'd like to be able to enlist outside consultants and pay them for the work. My question is, can i do this without having to pay taxes, etc, or report any forms to the IRS. Ideally, I'd pay them for the work and it would then be their responsibility to pay the taxes. Can this be done with a sole proprietorship and if not, HOW can it be done? Actually, the work will be done on a contratc basis (consulant was a bad word to use). So, since the work will be project based and the workers will never be at my location, do I still need insurance? Q. My qustion is why should one go for attorneys and consultants for applying in Diversity Visa Lottery Program? It can be done for free frm states govt site. Is it to avoid the risk of getting things wrong? Asked by John Dam - Fri Mar 5 08:07:05 2010 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. yes, it's basically to ensure accuracy. However, I've seen attorneys screw up people's lives by filling out the forms in an inaccurate way. And, there's really no way of doing a 100% assessment of immigration attorneys to see who is "the best" and "most efficient". The only way really is to rely on word of mouth. That's why it's good to ask around and even do some googling for reviews on certain attorneys before making a decision. If someone who is NOT an attorney but has a good reputation for filling out the forms in an accurate way, this too would be an option. The only time that actually constitutes the "unlawful practice of law" (giving out unauthorized legal advice) is when the non-attorney acts as an attorney and gives legal… [cont.] Answered by zonryzita - Mon Mar 8 11:37:28 2010 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Consultants" Health and Safety Bristol
