Why do companies like Cadbury and Coles approve of others such as Kraft and Wesfarmers taking over/buying them?
Q. How do the original/initial companies such as Coles and Cadbury benefit from this? What's to say one day, that Wesfarmers and Kraft won't be offered to be bought by another or larger business/company/corporat ion?
Asked by Other - Wed Jan 20 04:20:47 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. With a merger or acquisition, companies can operate at lesser cost due to larger economies of scale. They benefit by reducing costs of many operations (eg Marketing department) because now they operate under a single entity. Also a larger company can buy materials at lower costs due to its larger purchasing power. Technically, Wesfarmers and Kraft could be bought over one day, but they are pretty huge themselves, not many companies (especially in the food industry) are able to buy over such a large corporation. A merger might be a likelier choice PS. I cant wait for my cheese flavored Dairy Milk

Anyone know about investing in Business Development Companies, or BDCs?
Q. A recent investment newsletter touts them as a "safe" way to "gain huge returns" due to favorable tax incentives and Congressional mandates for private lenders. I've been investing for 30 years and have never heard about these. Can anyone bring me up to speed?

A. They're a kind of mutual fund that specializes in investing in startup type companies. In other words, they're like a publicly traded form of venture capital. You should be cautious about investing in one, because they aren't well-known and reliable information about them may not be so easy to get. That's not to say they can't be good investments, but it will probably take some time and effort on your part to separate the wheat from the chaff. If you're not prepared to invest the time and effort to research them, just stick to well-known investments.

Where do I go to read and share reviews about companies doing business online?
Q. I have had a very bad experience with a catalog company and feel the need to share it. I'd also like to read about other peoples experiences with companies doing business online. i've been to Epinion.com but can't find a review there... only more online shopping. So where do you go to hear and be heard from? The BBB is just a place to complain. If a company isn't a member of the BBB there's nothing they can do other than relay the complaint. The site you sent me to seems more for businesses than consumers. I want know know if there is a consumer forum for sharing information, reviews and/or ratings of companies doing business online.
